Restaurants on the island of St. John open their doors after two catastrophic hurricanes turned the community on its ear. Their offer of free hot meals brought sustenance and comfort as emergency response teams hurried in with rations and water. It also brought those who stayed together after hundreds of people fled. One restaurant owner, father of two young sons, said the sight of a mother coming through the line with her three children dressed for Sunday brunch made him feel it was all being done for the right reasons.
