Progress Appears from VIPD Recruitment Drive

Efforts to find quality candidates to serve as Virgin Islands police officers have proved to be tougher than officials first thought it would be. Several months after the soft launch of an outreach campaign, and publicly posting recruiting ads, the Virgin Islands Police Department has filled two classes at its training academy. But one police spokesman says it's been easier to fill seats for auxiliary cops than it has for patrol officers.
And, according to studies by one recognized national think tank, overall police recruitement is on the decline.
